“India Expands Defence Exports with Vietnam BrahMos Missile Deal”
India has achieved another major milestone in its growing defence export journey after officially signing a BrahMos missile agreement with Vietnam. The deal marks a significant step in strengthening India’s defence partnerships across Southeast Asia and highlights the country’s rising influence in the Indo-Pacific region.
After the Philippines became the first foreign buyer of the BrahMos missile system, Vietnam has now joined the list of nations acquiring India’s advanced supersonic cruise missile technology. Reports also suggest that Indonesia could soon finalize a similar defence agreement with India.
The BrahMos missile, jointly developed by India and Russia, is regarded as one of the world’s fastest and most reliable supersonic cruise missile systems. The increasing international demand for the missile reflects India’s transformation from a defence importer into a competitive global defence exporter.
Indian Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh confirmed the development during the Shangri-La Dialogue security forum in Singapore. He also stated that discussions with Indonesia are currently in the final stages.
The agreement is expected to strengthen India’s “Make in India” initiative and boost the country’s defence manufacturing ecosystem. Experts believe India’s growing defence exports will further improve geopolitical partnerships and strategic influence in the Asia-Pacific region.
India’s expanding defence cooperation with ASEAN countries also comes at a time of rising geopolitical tensions and increasing focus on maritime security in the South China Sea region.
As India continues investing in indigenous defence technology and manufacturing, the country is positioning itself as a trusted global defence partner and an emerging military technology exporter.
